Girl Scout cookies are a delicious and iconic treat, and with a bit of creativity, you can pair them with varying food groups to make filling and satiating snack ideas. This concept comes from the idea of "nutrition by addition vs subtraction", which has been referenced in previous blog posts that can be found here, here and here.
Additionally, pairing foods that we really like with other food groups to make balanced snacks can help us to feel more in control of enjoying these foods. So instead of writing off these foods entirely,
Crumble Thin Mints into yogurt/Greek yogurt. Add fruit and/or fresh mint if you’d like!
Pair Caramel deLites with apples and nuts of your choice for a combo of protein, fats, carbs, and fiber.
Top Tagalongs with banana slices and a drizzle of extra peanut butter for a delicious peanut butter, banana bite.
Serve Trefoils with cottage cheese and berries.
Enjoy some Lemonades or Lemon-Ups with clementines and a string cheese for a citrus-packed, dairy-filled snack (if you try the Lemon-Ups, enjoy the inspiring messages baked into the cookies, such as "I'm a Leader").
Combine Do-Si-Do cookies with a glass of milk or milk alternative of your choice. If needed (or instructed by your treatment team), consider also pairing with something additional like trail mix and/or dried fruit.
If you are in need of gluten-free options, there are two cookies that can be swapped in instead: Caramel Chocolate Chip or Toffee-tastic.
Experiment with different combinations to find your favorite pairings while supporting your local Girl Scout troop!
